Carpet is an excellent flooring option that adds warmth, color, and texture to any area of your home. While regular vacuuming will keep the dirt and debris at bay, but carpets should be given a deep clean two to three times a year to keep them looking their best. There are several ways you can give your carpet the best clean – choose the one that’s right for you!
- Water Extraction. Most carpet cleaning units are water extraction units, or steam cleaners. They clean by injecting a solution into the pile of the carpet, then sucking the dirty solution back into the machine. You can find high-power extraction machines to rent or buy. When using these machines, it’s important to not get your carpets overly wet, as this can cause damage in the form of shrinkage, discoloration, or mold growth.
- Dry Extraction. This method works conversely to water extraction. An absorbent compound is spread over the carpet, then sucked up with the cleaning machine. Because this method requires the use of special chemicals and a dry machine, it can be more costly than the water extracting options on the market.
- The Old Fashioned Way. Use a vacuum to go over the carpet and remove dust, hair and particles from your carpet. Combine equal parts of salt, borax, and vinegar and apply it to your carpets, allowing it to dry completely. Using a steam cleaner, rinse your carpet, allowing the steam cleaner to run water through the carpets, sucking up the solution and removing any caked-on dirt. Finally, allow your carpets time to completely dry.
- Hiring A Pro. For most homeowners, this is the best option. A professional carpet cleaner will be able to choose the method that’s best for your carpet, then expertly remove stains, dirt, and debris from your floors.
